Oregon!! Congratulations)
Hi all,
I have been remiss is writing and will sit down and do that right
now. We are at New Windsor Conference Center in New Windsor, MD for
the rest of this month. Our first month here went by very quickly.
Time flys when you are having fun.
Last week we drove up north to Harrisburg, PA to the state capitol.
It is certainly a beautiful one. It is very public friendly and
encourages all people to visit. We want to go back and see more than
we did at some later date.
The pictures show some of the highlights. The original capitol
building was built in Harrisburg about 1810 and in 1897 it burned to
the ground. The assembly then met at the Grace Methodist Church
(shown in one of the pictures below) about a block from the present
building. It was rebuilt beginning in 1904 and moved into in 1906
but construction continued for several years after that time. In
2006 they celebrated a Centennial held to mark the 100th anniversary
of the Capitol building. It is not designated as a National Historic
Landmark. I think it is the prettiest capitol we have visited in the
US and we have been to quite a few.
The first picture is the City Island which is an island on the
Susquehana River. We drove around it and they have ball games there
as well as a park. The capitol is on the left side of the photo. It
was a very clear day!
We have had lobster in Frederick MD which we do each year. It is so
yummy. Can't get it that good in California. We have also gone to
church several times in Frederick. We keep busy here at "work" or on
our days off by traveling close to our humble abode.
Tomorrow we leave the center for 6 days to go to Lake Junalaska, NC
to attend NOAC, National Older Adult Conference. I attended the
first Church of the Brethren Nat'l Youth Conference in Anderson,
Indiana in 1954 when I was in high school and this is an out growth
of that. So it should be fun to see if I recognize any one
there!!!! Hope they have name tags with large print. LOL
We are well, happy and enjoying what we are doing. Thanks to those
of you who write so faithfully. It is always good to hear from you.
Take care and be happy.
Love and hugs,
Mom and Dad
Grandmother and Granddaddy
Ric and Jan(ice)
