Oct. 17, 2010

Hello all,

We  are in Seattle for just a week and Friday we head south with a stop in Albany to see Ric's two kids and three grandkids.  Saturday we will go on home after being away for over three months.
It is a beautiful, sunny day but we were here for the first storm of the season which lasted several days.  The leaves are turning and we are seeing beautiful fall colors.

We had a great 2 months in Richmond, IN volunteering at Brethren House again.  Met some really nice people and renewed some old acquaintances.

On our way to Indiana we spent 10 days in Bismarck ND visiting with Sharon who is working there.  Courtney was the only grandchild there at that time and she had just gotten a job with Delta Airlines.  There are 4 airlines that fly in there so she is busy as each one comes in.  After we left her 14 year old brother, Brent,  flew in and with him being a minor, Court had to escort him off the plane.  That is too funny because Courtney is this tiny little thing and Brent is quite tall for his age.   But it was all in a days work.  Chelsey also flew in after we were there and we got to see them all on our way back from Indiana.

After we left there we spent a night in Elgin, IL and took my great nephew, Jeremy and his girl friend, out for dinner.  He was just finishing up over 2 years of BVS (Brethren Volunteer Service) and it was great to see him.  His office was at the Brethren  main offices which I had wanted to visit for a long time.

While we were in Richmond we went to the Museum in Cincinnati and saw the Pompeii traveling display.  It was excellent as we have actually seen Mt. Vesuvius in Italy which made it even more interesting.  We also attended 2 plays at the Richmond Theater.  The first was Hair Spray which was excellent.  The other was 33 variations which was about Beethoven and music which we thoroughly enjoyed.  We also attended several local festivals which waswere also fun.  The area is beautiful with many trees, rolling hills and lots of corn and soy beans.

We were pleasantly surprised one day when Jan and Roma Jo Thompson stopped in on their way to VA to visit for a while.  It was because of them that we volunteer in Richmond so they stopped to check us out.  They volunteer there in the spring.  They are the ones who planned our trip to China 3 years ago.  We first met them years ago when we were volunteering in Maryland. We thoroughly enjoyed their visit but it was too short.

We also drove to Greensboro NC to see David, Angel and Sasha while they were visiting Angel's dad and his wife who does sculptures.  She has won awards for many.  It was neat to see them all over their home.  We had not met them before so it was great to be able to meet them.  The drive to NC was SE through the Appalachians and was just beautiful.  We  had a delightful time.

We left IN Oct. 3 and did our trip in reverse.  I am sorry I have not written in a while.  With Face Book I find I don't write as much.  Sorry.  But we do love hearing from you all,.

Take care and take care of one another.

Fwd: 8 great iPhotos Glacier National Park

July 15, 2012

Hi,

On our way to Glacier we went through Flathead Indian Reservation and the very large Flathead Lake which is 200 square miles.  It was very picturesque.

We then started through Glacier  and had a most scenic trip. We stopped at the Visitor's Center hoping to see a movie of the history of the park but they had none.  We traveled about 18 or so miles on the floor of the mountains which was beautiful.  We passed a very large lake while driving there.  We were on Going to the Sun Road which is only open in the summer.  Then we started going up to the top of the mountains  which took quite a few miles to do.  Again it was very scenic.
Once on the top we drove about 20 miles on a narrow 2 lane road which had some road construction going on.  We were stopped about 20 minutes so we had time to take some good pictures.  We also saw some mountain goats (traveling together) and I took a close up (right by the car) of a white one and when I looked at it there was a baby with it too and I had not even noticed it.  We were moving at the time so I took the picture quickly. Nice surprise.
We saw the same double falls for many miles and from the floor to the high mountains.  We were over 8,900 feet up,   There were lots of falls and much water and quite a bit of snow.

Finally after some 20 or so miles on the top we began to descend.  I am so glad we did this but I don't cherish the idea of driving that road again!! Once was enough but it sure was beautiful.  When we finally got out of the park (about some 60 miles across, we returned to Montana and soon lost the mountains and had prairies. What a difference in not many miles.

Further east we went through Harve MT which we had driven through  8 or so years ago.  We had stopped at a Farmer's Market at that time at a little park in town.  We saw it again and remembered it again.  It was and is a neat little town.

We continued our trip on  Hwy 2  to Wolf Point MT where we  turned southeast and hit  I-94 that brought us through part of the Badlands and some scenic parts of North Dakota and into Bismarck Thursday.

Bismarck is a lovely, hilly city and is actually quite nice.  We have not a lot of it yet but plan to this week.  It is good to visit with our daughter Sharon, Lito and granddaughter Courtney.  Chelsey and Brent will be here the end of Julty.

Our next main stop with be Bethany Seminy in Richmond IN where we will volunteer for a couple of months.

And what are you up to?  Enjoy and keep in touch.

Love to all, Ric and Jan(ice)
